PETRONAS KIMANIS POWER PLANT

Chin Architect is a registers architect with Petronas, the Malaysian National Oil & Gas Company. The company is currently embarking on a series of major oil & gas development in Kimanis, following the discovery of further oil and gas resources in offshore Sabah. As oil and gas industry in Sabah is young in comparison to Sarawak, there is an urgent need for more infrastructure development.

Location: Kimanis, which is situated on a coastal bay, 45km. south of Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Sabah, in Malaysian Borneo.

Petronas is to harness oil & gas resources in offshore Sabah and Sarawak to implement 3 major development projects;-

1. Sabah Oil & Gas Terminal (SOGT)at Kimanis. This will have the capacity to store 2.5 million barrels of crude oil.

2. 300mw Kimanis oil-fired Power Plant. (80% funded by Petronas Gas (PETGAS).

3. Sabah – Sarawak Gas Pipeline (SSGP), to Petronas LNG Complex in Bintulu, Sarawak.

Industry: Oil& Gas. Petronas Carigali Sdn. Bhd., the exploration and production arm of Petronas, is the developerfor SOGT. Petronas Carigali Sdn. Bhd. is also implementing the Kimanis Power Plant. The construction of the plant is scheduled for completion by the end of 2012 or early 2013.

Scope of Work. Chin Architect’s work scope embraces not only architectural planning, but also serves as the contractor, developer, construction consultant, project manager and constructionco-ordinator.
